Bio

After receiving his PhD degree in Statistics from the University of Florida in 2001, Dr. Shiau started his clinical research career with research faculty positions at UF in Neuroscience (and later Biomedical Engineering) department to study the dynamics of electroencephalogram (EEG) from patients with seizure disorders. Since 2008, Dr. Shiau has served as the Vice President of Scientific Affairs at Optima Neuroscience, Inc., a bio-tech company that he co-founded to develop software and hardware devices for brain function monitoring. During the past 8 years, Dr. Shiau has been leading several NIH-funded clinical studies (approximate $4.7M in total funding). He also led the study design and data analysis for obtaining FDA approvals. With his training in experimental design and experience in clinical research and scientific writing, Dr. Shiau currently teaches Research Methods and Master Thesis I & II courses of Master’s Degree Program at Chi.
