This program provides lectures, face-to-face communication, practical experience, and other means of in-depth knowledge about the application and development of Integrative Veterinary Medicine in the United States to help understand the status and trends of American veterinary medicine and foster cross-cultural exchange and innovation capabilities among veterinary students.

Program Background

Chi University is the first university in the USA to offer a master's program in Integrative Veterinary Medicine (MS-IVM). Chi University is also the first modern university dedicated to Integrative Veterinary Medicine and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Xie Huisheng, the founder of Chi University, was a clinical professor at University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine.Dr. Xie is one of the first professors in the United States to specialize on equine, canine, feline, and exotic clinical practice. Over the past 26 years, Chi University has trained thousands of professionals in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and Integrative Veterinary Medicine from over 80 countries worldwide.

Integrative Veterinary Medicine is a broad discipline that combines Western Veterinary Medicine with holistic therapies, including rehabilitation, physical therapy, chiropractic manipulation, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutritional management. With the popularity of integrative therapies in human medicine, pet owners are also seeking similar treatment options for their animals. Many universitiy teaching animal hospitals and private pet clinics in the United States now offer Integrative Veterinary Medicine (IVM) services to provide comprehensive care for patients.

This program provides lectures, face-to-face communication, practical experience, and other means of in-depth knowledge about the application and development of Integrative Veterinary Medicine in the United States to help understand the status and trends of American veterinary medicine and foster cross-cultural exchange and innovation capabilities among veterinary students.

Program Content

Grasp the holistic concepts and clinical applications of Integrative Veterinary Medicine (rehabilitation, physical therapy, chiropractic manipulation, acupuncture, and herbal medicine).

Learn the development and trends of American veterinary medicine.

Understand American culture, the veterinary education system, and university life.

Visit Chi University, the University of Florida, Jing Tang Herbal, and American animal clinics to experience firsthand the application and development of Integrative Veterinary Medicine in the United States.

Tour the Kennedy Space Center.

Prerequisites

1) Undergraduate students must be enrolled in a university.

2) A GPA no lower than 3.1 is preferred.

3) English Proficiency:

  • CET-4 score of 470 or above, or CET-6 score of 430 or above.
  • Priority consideration for applicants with IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 or above.
  • First-year students without CET-4/6 scores or those with exceptional English language skills will be considered as appropriate.

Instructors

Dr. Xie has 40 years of clinical, teaching, and research experience in veterinary acupuncture and TCVM. He has trained over 10,000 veterinarians to practice TCVM worldwide. Dr. Xie’s education includes advanced training in veterinary medicine, veterinary acupuncture, and human acupuncture. Dr. Xie has authored 20 books and over 100 peer-reviewed papers. His textbooks, including Xie’s Veterinary Herbology, Xie’s Veterinary Acupuncture, and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine-Fundamental Principles, have been used for TCVM training programs around the world. Dr. Xie continues to teach and develop educational courses and programs at Chi University, serves as a full clinical professor at the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine, and is an honorary professor at China Agricultural University, South China Agricultural University, and China Southwest University.

Terri Rosado graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 and completed a rotating small animal internship at UF College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. She earned her certification in acupuncture from Chi in 2008 and has been practicing integrative medicine since. She has been a lab instructor at Chi since 2010. Dr. Rosado received her certification in veterinary rehabilitation therapy from the Canine Rehabilitation Institute in 2013. Dr. Rosado is currently enrolled in the TCVM Masters Program at Chi and is certified in all branches of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. She is an Assistant Professor at Chi University and the medical director of Chi Animal Hospital. She loves to teach, opening her doors to students of Chi and veterinary schools via externships, and welcoming volunteers to learn what small animal veterinary practice is about.
