Program Overview

The Small Animal Acupuncture program in Philippines is a great opportunity for students living in Philippines to pursue their Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA) certification.

This program is comprised of online lectures, as well as hands-on wet labs and lectures onsite in Manila, Philippines. The online lectures, labs, tutoring, presentation slides, class handouts and final exam are offered in English.

Major Topics

With a curriculum designed for students new to Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), the Small Animal Acupuncture Program provides a comprehensive mix of both theory and practice. Students will learn:

  • TCVM Foundations: Five Elements, Yin-Yang, Eight Principles,Zang-Fu Physiology and Pathology, Meridians and Channels
  • The scientific basis of acupuncture
  • 129 transpositional and 28 classical canine acupuncture points (hands-on, wet-lab demos)
  • How to needle acupuncture points in dogs, cats and birds
  • TCVM diagnostic systems, including tongue and pulse diagnosis
  • How to integrate acupuncture into your practice

Certification

Students of the Veterinary Acupuncture program are eligible for the Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist certification endorsed by Chi University and the World Association of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (WATCVM). The CVA certification requirements are as follows:

  • Complete all sessions of the program

  • Pass three online quizzes with scores above 75%

  • Pass the final written exam in the final on-site session with a score above 75%

  • Pass the clinical acupoint exam in the final on-site session with a score above 75%

  • Submit one veterinary acupuncture case report to be approved

  • Complete 30 hours of advanced TCVM program training or internship with a certified veterinary acupuncturist

Please note that Chi cannot issue any certification to veterinary students until their DVM or equivalent has been obtained.

Dr. Xie has 41 years of clinical, teaching, and research experience in veterinary acupuncture and TCVM. He has trained over 10,000 veterinarians to practice TCVM worldwide. Dr. Xie’s education includes advanced training in veterinary medicine, veterinary acupuncture, and human acupuncture. Dr. Xie has authored 20 books and over 100 peer-reviewed papers. His textbooks, including Xie’s Veterinary Herbology, Xie’s Veterinary Acupuncture, and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine-Fundamental Principles, have been used for TCVM training programs around the world. Dr. Xie continues to teach and develop educational courses and programs at Chi University, serves as a full clinical professor at the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine, and is an honorary professor at China Agricultural University, South China Agricultural University, and China Southwest University.

Dr Chee May Wong graduated with a DVM from University Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2003 and has practiced in small animal medicine and emergency practice for twenty years and established her own private clinics in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. In 2013, Dr. Wong began pursuing an education in TCVM at the Chi Institute (now Chi University) and earned a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA, 2013), Certified Veterinary Chinese Herbalist (CVCH, 2017), Certified Veterinary Tui-na Practitioner (CVTP, 2017), Certified Veterinary Food Therapist (CVFT, 2017) with Dean's List recognition, Certified Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine Practitioner (CTCVMP, 2018) and Master of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (MS-TCVM, 2019). Dr. Wong the Director of Chi Malaysia, tutor, lab instructor (TA), Acupoints examiner and also part of elected WATCVM BOD and APATCVM BOD. She has published and presented her case & research studies including “ Integrative Medical Approach to Anaplasmosis in a dog", “TCVM Approach to Acute Pelvic Limb Paralysis in a Dog,” "The Effectiveness of Integrating Gui Pi Tang with Conventional Medicines in the Treatment of Thrombocytopenia in Dogs: A Retrospective Study,” and “Integrative mSAP for Arthritis and other Geriatric/Pediatric Conditions in Dogs and Cats etc. Her mission is to save more lives, especially in emergency critical care cases with the latest integrative medical approach by applying Traditional Chinese veterinary medicine treatment regime.

Directors

Dr. Jesicca Janmarie M. Ledesma is a veterinarian passionate about holistic animal care. She graduated from De La Salle Araneta University in 2019 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. After three years of practicing small animal medicine, Dr. Jesicca opened AcuVet Animal Wellness Center in June 2022, where she promotes animal acupuncture.

In 2021, Dr. Jesicca discovered the benefits of animal acupuncture and pursued further education in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) at Chi University, Malaysia, completing the course in 2022. To deepen her knowledge, she took an advanced acupuncture class in 2023.

Dr. Jesicca is dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to animals, integrating traditional veterinary medicine with holistic approaches.
